This symposium is designed to cover a broad spectrum of contemporary issues within the area of microencapsulation, nanotechnology and lipid systems. The plenary sessions include presentations on Nanoparticles as an Escape to Biochemical Barriers by Simon Benita (Hebrew University of Jerusalem), Microparticles as a Generic Platform for Vaccine Delivery by Hans P Merkle (ETH Zurich)and Lipidic Nanocapsules in Cancer Treatment by Jean-Pierre Benoit (Universite d' Angers). Some specific topics in the program include pharmacology of polymers and nanomaterials, engineering of nanoparticles, microparticles of PEGylated peptides, micro/nanosystems for drug delivery based on chitosan derivatives, deposition of particles in a simulated lung apparatus and regulatory aspects of liposomal products. Included in the 3 day program will be poster sessions and technical exhibits. The symposium will also provide a forum for individuals from industry, government, and academia to present and discuss the challenges facing this rapidly growing micro/nano particulate technology sector of the pharmaceutical industry.
